We just do things a little differently. All conditions of safety are met first, then traditional yoga poses are modified to the individual. Although poses may look different, an adaptive yoga practice is still completely grounded in the foundational principles of Yoga—balance, containment and boundaries, expansion, energy, grounding, intention, presence, and rhythm. Adaptive Yoga is a physical practice, but is also about connecting with our inner, energetic bodies and cultivating an awareness of the mind-body connection.
In both the Adaptive Yoga and Gentle Yoga classes a variety of props from chairs to bolsters, blocks to straps, blankets to big cushioned exercise mats. The use of props in ANY yoga practice opens up a level of accessibility and success for all yogis!
There will be one or two assistants in Adaptive Yoga that will help students as necessary, give light adjustments, and act as partners as needed. Students are always welcome to bring a friend, partner, aide or other helper to assist them in class. If you are unable to sit up on the floor without assistance, please bring a friend, partner or aide with you. It is important that Adaptive Yoga class participants be able to follow simple instructions.
Additionally, there will be no music played in our Adaptive Yoga class to ensure all participants are able to hear instructions and to be sensitive to anyone with sensory sensitivities. We also ask that you be sensitive in not wearing strong scents, such as oils or perfumes, to class.
